New Photo Essay On The Trans Gendered In India Living With HIV By Alessandro Vincenzi Now On Gaia Photos

India: The Transgender World is the title of the newest feature story appearing on Gaia Photos visually displayed by Spain's Alessandro Vincenzi.

As Vincenzi explains, "During British raj the colonials passed a law declaring trans-gendered people were “sodomites” and who practiced homosexualiy. This was the first time that trans-gendered persons in India were openly discriminated against."

He continues, "There is an estimated 25,000 trans-gendered people in Mumbai and 60% of them are involved in the commercial sex industry while 20% are infected with HIV. The infected are relegated to begging for 4-5 hours at a time and normally earn 50-60 rupees (about 1 euro) each."
