TANGO DANCING IN MACEDONIA by Gaia Photos Photographer Ivan Blazev

Dancing at ‘Milongas’, a term for a place or an event where tango is danced.

Photojournalist Ivan Blazhev looks at the tango in Macedonia in his photo essay

As Blazhev describes, "Tracing its begining to the 1880’s in the Argentine underbelly, the houses of ill repute, Tango has had it’s periods of ups and downs. After the initial spread through all levels of the Argentine society, Tango found its way first to Paris, and then to other parts of the world. But after the coup in Argentina in 1955 and until the fall of the military junta Tango was ousted from public life by the repressive regime, and although it was never officially banned, less and less people danced especially the new young generations who took to Rock and Roll rather than Tango.”

SOCIAL NETWORKING REFLECTIONS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

Photo © John Brown All Rights Reserved - Follow Me On Twitter

I've taken a few months off blogging to try and more closely understand the Social Networking platforms and I have learned quite a bit.

First of all, every photographer wll benefit fom downloading and reading the great Photoshelter report regarding social networking. Hats off to Alan Murayabashi and the crew there. They are great people who REALLY DO like photography!!!!!

It's helped me update my LinkedIn pages as well as my Facebook participation.

Our GAIA PHOTOS FAN PAGE now has nearly 1000 members and continues to grow steadily thanks to the efforts of the 60 GAIA PHOTOS Photographers.

I have also watched Magnum Photos photographer John Vink start tweeting on Twitter from right here in Cambodia. Keep an eye on him, he's doing important work here.

Next month I'll share some of my experiences with everyone, such as how to get organized and why it's so important.
