India: Dharavi, Coveted Land
More than a million people live on some of Mumbai, India's most sought after land. Its tight and bustling alleys are filled with machine shops, recycling plants, and makeshift homes.
As Brent Foster explains, "I was fortunate enough to receive two assignments due to the recent “Slumdog Millionaire” hype that covered the cost of my trip from Delhi to Mumbai, and allowed me to begin to document this important story. Dharavi interests me in so many ways, it’s color, layers, characters, and dense population. People here work hard, plain and simple."
Those remarks by internationally recognized award winning visual journalist Brent Foster set the stage for his photo reportage, India: Dharavi, Coveted Land, now appearing on Gaia Photos, a new international photography source comprised of 41 photojournalists from around the world whose mission is to promote quality and diversity in documentary photography.
Brent Foster is based in New Delhi, India, and works throughout SE Asia.
