"A third of Polish people living in Britain may leave the UK in 2009, driven out by the recession" according to John Watts-Robertson's photo story UK: Recession Bites For Polish. John visited the Sacred Heart of Jesus Polish Church in Bedford, UK, to document the lives of some of the Poles who flocked to Britain after Poland was admitted to the European Union (EU) in 2004 and the reportage is now appearing on Gaia Photos.
John Watts-Robertson has been an editorial photographer since the age of 17 and worked his way up from weekly and regional newspapers to freelancing for national and international newspapers and magazines.
Since 1987, John has been a regular contributor to The Guardian and The Telegraph of London newspapers and he's won several awards over the years, including UK Photographer of the Year twice.
Currently, diversifying into more commercial and other photographic work, the devoted photo industry veteran says, "photography is more than just a job to me and I'm still as passionate about good photos as I was at the age of 13 when I had my first photo printed on the front page of my local paper."
